The Parent Mentor Program distributes information that might be useful to families who have children with special needs. The information provided is for informational use and is not intended to replace the advice of professionals. It is not necessarily endorsed or sponsored by Gwinnett County Public Schools. Gwinnett County Public School Parent Mentors are not a part of this initiative. Please refer all questions and comments to Ms. Looper. Her contact information is shown below. ARE YOU IN NEED OF SAFE, QUALITY AFTERCARE FOR YOUR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD? ARE YOU SEARCHING FOR A LOCATION, CONVENIENT TO THE SCHOOL YOUR CHILD ATTENDS? I am a parent of a child who receives special education services in Gwinnett County Public School System. Currently, I am collaborating with Nesbit Elementary (my child's school) and the YMCA that provides their after school program, to begin serving students with special needs. This effort will be a pilot program, with hopes of expanding to other schools at all levels (Elem, Middle, HS). This program would be an addition to the existing YMCA after school program currently in place at Nesbit. The goal of this initial program is to create a safe after school environment with specially trained caregivers to support our children's additional needs in toileting, feeding, and more focused care (lower teacher/student ratios). To best support the start of this initiative, we need to show the need (how many students would be enrolled to make this financially feasible) If you need or have interest in this resource, want to be a part of this project, or have questions/suggestions, please contact me at: email@example.com I am excited about making this happen in Gwinnett County and look forward to hearing from you. Thank you, Jenn Looper
